Obituary of Maggie Babineau (Sock)

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mary Margaret "Maggie" Babineau (Sock) on March 31, 2025, at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital in Fredericton, NB. Born on October 8, 1940, Maggie was a beloved wife, stepmother, sister-in-law, aunt, cousin, and cherished friend to so many.

Maggie was predeceased by her loving parents, Michael and Eunice (Clement) Sock; her dear son, Vernon Sock; and all of her siblings—Ronnie, Raymond, Francis, Rita, Janet, and Elaine. As well as 7 nephews and 3 nieces. She also mourned the loss of her mother-in-law, Helen, father-in-law, Jim, sister-in-law, JoAnne, and numerous other beloved family members and friends who passed before her.

Left to treasure her memory is her devoted husband and soulmate, Mike Babineau; her stepson, Roger Babineau; her sister-in-law, Barb Barton (Brett); her brother-in-law, Jim Babineau (Jane); and many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and countless friends who were blessed to know her. Among those who will miss her dearly are her 12 nieces and 14 nephews, who loved her very much.

Maggie had a unique gift for making everyone around her feel valued and uplifted. Her warmth, honesty, and integrity were evident in every aspect of her life. A talented artist, she expressed her creativity through beadwork, intricate dream catchers, weaving, and stunning silver jewelry, a craft she mastered as a skilled silversmith. Her dedication to her artistry led her to the School of Art and Craft Design, where she honed her talents with determination and passion.

In her younger years, Maggie also worked as a nurse, caring for those in need with the same compassion and kindness that defined her spirit. She worked at the Royal Columbian Hospital in New Westminster, BC, and the Kamloops BC Hospital in the early 1960s and 1970s, as well as at the St. John Hospital, NB, in the 1950s. Maggie was a "people person" with a sense of humor and enjoyed socializing and laughing. Her love for animals, especially cats, was well known, and she had a gentle heart for all living beings.

Maggie’s legacy is one of love, kindness, and artistic beauty. She touched the lives of many, and her absence will be deeply felt. Her family kindly asks that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to your local SPCA in her honor.

Maggie will be resting at Hogg Funeral & Cremation Services in Minto, NB, for a one-day viewing and service. Visitation will take place on Thursday, April 3, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Hogg Funeral & Cremation Services (10 King Street, Minto, NB E4B 3N5), with a funeral service to follow at 1:00 PM at the same location. A reception will be held immediately after, at the Minto Senior's Hall (11 O'Leary Lane, Minto) to celebrate the life of this extraordinary woman.

Though Maggie is no longer with us in body, her spirit, love, and the joy she brought to those around her will remain forever in our hearts.
