Obituary of Maureen Gould
It is with deep love and heavy hearts that the family of Joan Maureen Gould—known to all simply as Maureen—announces her peaceful passing on June 13, 2025, at the Saint John Regional Hospital, with her beloved family by her side. Born in Fredericton, NB, Maureen was the daughter of the late Frank and Frances (McCaughey) Burgoyne.
Maureen lived a life grounded in faith and overflowing with kindness. Her presence was a gift to all who knew her—a woman whose compassion ran deep, who gave freely of her time, her energy, and her heart. She made people feel truly seen and heard, and when she asked how you were, she listened—really listened—with the intention to understand and offer comfort.
Community was at the core of who Maureen was. Over the years, she poured herself into countless organizations and initiatives. She was involved in Girl Guides, led a cooking club, ran Monday night bingo, and took great pride in her work with the Heart and Stroke Big Bike campaign, which she championed in the community for over a decade. She was a strong supporter of Minto Minor Hockey during her son Michael’s playing years and played a key role on the board of Minto Service to Seniors.
She brought joy and creativity to community events, organizing the hat and costume contest during Minto Fun Days and helping facilitate countless events and dinners as an affiliate of the Knights of Columbus. Her dedication to the Minto Recreation Center was just another example of her tireless spirit and generous heart.
Maureen loved bingo nights, gathering with friends, and never missed her standing Friday hair appointment with Justin. Loyal in every sense—whether as a friend, customer, or community member—she left an imprint that will not be forgotten.
She is survived by the love of her life, Donald Gould; her son, Michael (Cindi); daughters, Stephanie (David) and Natalie (Troy); and her cherished grandchildren: Britanie, Alexis, Kristen, Kristopher, Jacob, Jason, Corey, Megan, and Mandi. She was immensely proud of her growing family and adored her great-grandchildren: Kain, Bryce, Luna, Mya, James, Sadie, Brixton, Crew, Billie, and Connor.
Maureen is also survived by her sisters, Sharon Brodie and Susan Craig (Frank); her brothers-in-law, Ron Arsenault and Stephen Thomas; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sisters Anne, Agnes, Catherine, and Rosemary; her beloved in-laws, George and Mary Gould; her sister-in-law, Theresa; and several dear extended family members and lifelong friends.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the Cardiac Care ICU team at the Saint John Regional Hospital for their exceptional care and kindness during Maureen’s final days.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Friday, June 20, 2025, at St. Barbara's Parish, 240 Main Street, Minto. A reception will follow immediately after the service.
For those who wish, donations in Maureen’s memory can be made to the MEMS Breakfast Program or the Minto Public Library—two causes close to her heart.
Maureen’s legacy is one of love, kindness, and deep devotion to others. Her absence will be felt by many, but her spirit will live on in every act of generosity, every kind word spoken, and every community gathering that brings people together.
