Rick Kowalski

Obituary of Rick Kowalski

With heavy hearts, we announce the unexpected death of Richard (“Rick”) Allan Kowalski of Sunnyside Beach, NB on Friday, August 22, 2025 at the Saint John Regional Hospital with his family at his side.

Rick is survived by his devoted wife, Deborah (Richardson) Kowalski, his sons, Michael and Jeffrey Kowalski, and the light of his life, his granddaughter Evelyn Kowalski. Rick also leaves behind his two sisters: Karen McAllister and Kimberly Kowalski, and nephews, Ryan and Jordan McAllister.

Born in Minto, NB on July 10, 1951, he was the son of the late Henry and Marjorie (Greene) Kowalski. Rick graduated with a mechanical engineering degree from UNB in 1974 and started his career with NB Power, Clorox of Canada, then the Research and Productivity Council in New Brunswick (RPC) eventually migrating to the National Research Council of Canada (NRC-IRAP) as an industrial technology advisor. After 35 years, Rick received a lifetime membership to the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of New Brunswick and started his retirement in 2016.

Rick cherished his time with his family and was happiest surrounded by those he loved. Whether hunting ducks in the Fall, snowmobiling in the Winter, or golfing with his crew at the Pines in the Spring/Summer, Rick loved helping friends, always ready with a solution to fix any problem or the perfect tool or part from his “well-stocked” garage.

Rick’s love for Grand Lake was boundless, and he left an indelible mark on the community he called home. He cherished the lake’s beauty, the lively parties, and the endless laughs shared with neighbours and friends. Rick’s warm presence and infectious enthusiasm made Sunnyside Beach a brighter place for all who knew him.

For those who wish, donations can be made in Rick’s name to the Canadian Cancer Society and the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

In keeping with Rick’s wishes, no visitation or funeral service will be held. A private memorial will be held at a later date.
