Obituary of Phyllis Joan Davis

Saturday morning, August 23, 2025 was a beautiful, warm, and sunny day. This day mirrored the personality and spirit of Phyllis Joan (Thompson) Davis who passed peacefully at York Care Center, Fredericton, NB.

Phyllis was born on Nov. 22, 1941 in Chipman, NB – second child of the late Colin and Ruby (Little) Thompson of Newcastle Bridge, NB.

Throughout her life, Phyllis was a diligent and independent woman – employed in various positions at Bonar & Bemis Ltd. Industrial Bag Factory, the Daily Gleaner, and Atlantic Superstore (Smythe Street), among others.

She married her first husband, Gerald LeBlanc in 1960 – a union which brough her two sons, Jerry and Brian into the world. While remaining amicable, Phyllis and Gerald parted ways. Phyllis later met and married her second husband, Lionel Davis, in 1979 - a courageous love story that lives on. They were best friends – partners – and soulmates.

In addition to their deep love for one another, Phyllis and Lionel shared many interests and passions – RVing and camping throughout the Maritimes and eastern USA, playing cards (Cribbage) with friends, laughing, and going for long drives. Phyllis loved her family, family history*, friends, thrifting and especially being with her beloved Lionel. It was a rare thing to ever see them apart.

*It was her interest in family history that inspired her son to research his mom’s family line. In so doing, it was discovered that she is a direct descendent of the “Little” line that came to Queens County, NB - from Carlisle, England – in 1820. She was intrigued to learn this!

In attempting to try to capture the essence of Phyllis’s spirit and personality, this acrostic poem was inspired…..(using the “f” sound vs “p”).

P friendly, fun-loving, feisty, and family-oriented

H honest, humorous, humble

Y youthful, yearned for Yule-tide, yard-sales

L listener, laugher, little kid at heart

L Lionel-lover

I independent, inquisitive, ice-cream

S sudoku, spunky, springy, sensitive

Phyllis leaves behind Lionel Davis (her loving and devoted husband of 45 years); son, Jerry LeBlanc (daughter-in-law Louise LaBerge); daughter-in-law Stacy LeBlanc; step-daughters, Tina MacDonald (John), Tracey Kandasamy (MG), Annette Bussiere (Dave), Catherine David; step-son, Dale David (Tammy); grandchildren (Peter Wright, Kyle Kandasamy, Kendal Kandasamy and Hillery David); good friend (Sharon Rogers), special family member Karen Ashley (Matt); along with several cousins, nephews, and nieces.

Phyllis was pre-deceased by her parents, son (Brian LeBlanc), sisters (May Barton and Fay LeBlanc), brother (Rollie Thompson), first husband (Gerald LeBlanc), step-son (Tony David), and grandson (Andrew Wright).

Phyllis’s strength of spirit, courage, dignity, and grace helped her face and travel her journey with Alzheimer’s. After 15 years living with this disease – with Lionel by her side daily - she has embarked on her final journey and is at peace.

In keeping with her wishes, there will be no visitation, however a graveside service, officiated by Pastor Norm MacDonald, will be held at Red Bank United Church Cemetery (Chipman, NB) on Saturday, August 30 at 2:00 PM. Those who wish to say good-bye to Phyllis are most welcome to join us.

We will never be able to thank the staff of York Care Center and Dixon Hall enough for the kind, compassionate and professional care you gave Phyllis. Thank you for having loved and supported – both her and Lionel - the way you did.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer Society of New Brunswick or charity of donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.

Arrangements are in the compassionate care of Hogg Funeral Services, Minto, NB. Memories and condolences may be shared through www.hoggfunerals.ca
