Doug, Cyril and Allen are thankful for a beautiful, faithful Godly mother who hand stitched their clothes, made them quilts and taught them the value of family. Iona prayed for her sons and loved them unconditionally and extended that gentle love to their wives and families.
Iona was born in Cumberland Bay May 08, 1932 (the youngest of 12) attending the local school and church. Iona’s first job (age 16) was working with her sister Thelma at the Netherwood School in Saint John, NB. January 31, 1951 Iona married Norman and settled in his parent’s homestead (Leland & Nellie Barton) in Newcastle Creek. In 1953, they built a home along the Lake Road. Iona continued to live in their home after Norman’s passing in 1999. The last few years she enjoyed the company of several daytime caregivers. Iona enjoyed many trips with Norman and the family, reading, quilting, knitting, baking, attending church and Iona in her quiet unassuming way was a great listener.
