Omer began his working life at Avon Coal, where he made many friendships that lasted a lifetime. During his time at Avon Coal, Omer met many veterans whose stories inspired his lifelong interest in the history of the World Wars. In his younger years, Omer was known for his love of cars, he could tell you just about anything about them, and he especially enjoyed spending time outdoors duck hunting. Later in life, Omer devoted much of his time and energy to supporting the Alzheimer Society, a cause close to his heart. He took great pride in helping others find guidance and resources when they needed it most, and his kindness and dedication touched many lives. In recognition of his outstanding volunteer service, Omer was awarded the Queen Elizabeth Golden Jubilee Medal. He was deeply appreciated by all who worked with him at the Alzheimer Society, especially Chandra McBean and all the girls there who knew and loved him.
Omer will be deeply missed by his son, Gary Caissie (Josie) of Quebec City, QC; his daughter, Anna Caissie of Maquapit Lake, NB; his daughter-in-law, Sheryl of Welland, ON; grandchildren, Tara, Trevor, Jessie Ann, Dominic, Jean Michael, and Drew; and five great-grandchildren.
