Obituary of Gus Andries

Auguste Andries

January 16, 1934 – January 20, 2026

 

It is with heavy hearts our family announces the death of Auguste Andries on January 20, 2026 at Upper River Valley Hospital. Born in Minto, New Brunswick, January 16th,1934, he was the son of the late Henri and Fernande (Jagoury) Andries.

Those left to mourn his loss are his loving spouse, Mavis Ross; his children, Cathy Smith (Eldon), Michael Andries (Brenda) and Kelly Andries Basque (Clermont); his siblings, Frank Andries, Joseph (Helen) Andries and Susan Cantatore (Vincent); his several grandchildren, great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews will miss him dearly.

Gus leaves this world to join not only his parents, also his first wife, Eva (nee: Barton) and his second wife, Donna (nee: Crouse); his infant sister, Matilda; his brothers Lee and Peter Andries; his sister-in-law, Elizabeth, Lillian and Priscilla.

Gus was a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus also Grand Knight Minto Council 3502. Member of the 3rd degree Council 1942 Fredericton.

He was inducted into the Oromocto Wall of Fame with Oromocto Bowl. He was also inducted into the Minto Wall of Fame for Bowling and with the Minto Miners soft ball league. He was welcomed into the New Brunswick soft ball team with Minto Miners.

Gus worked for the Province of New Brunswick, in the village of Minto for 20 years at the New Brunswick Liquor Commission and transferred to Fredericton for his final 9 years as a manager.

After retiring in 1991, Gus continued to bowl with the Seniors at Kingswood until he played as Santa Clause at Brookside for a number of years and was the last one to play Santa Clause at the Fredericton Mall.

As per Auguste wishes he has been cremated and no formal service will be held.
