Obituary of Edmond Joseph Blackier
The death of Edmond Joseph Blackier of Cumberland Bay, NB occurred Saturday, January 27, 2018 at the Chalmer’s Regional Hospital.
Born in Rogersville, NB on July 30, 1919, he was the son of the late Dennis and Lucie (Arsenault) Blackier.
Edmond has been honoured by many groups throughout the years, receiving numerous awards for his music and generosity. He has volunteered at the Bethel Home in Jemseg and was appointed a lifetime member of the NB Hospital Auxiliary for his commitment to the entertainment of seniors. Edmond was a long-time member of the Chipman/Minto Lions Club until he moved to Moncton and is now a life-time member of the Knights of Columbus 4th degree. A 2015 inductee of the Minto Country Music Wall of Fame.
Survived by sons, Edmund (Eleanor) of Saint George, NB Eric (Pat) of Moncton, NB, Ben (Gloria) of Welland, ON and Stephen (Pauline) of Moncton, NB; several grandchildren; great grandchildren; ½ sisters, Kaye, Exelda, Corinne and Florence; ½ brother, Louis; many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Edmond was predeceased by his wife, Irene (Muzerall) Blackier in 2006; sisters, Ida Melanson, Alvina Williams, Annie Williams, and Veronica Blackier; ½ brother, William; ½ sisters, Irene, Louise and Alice.
Resting at Hogg Funeral Service (10 King Street, Minto) with visiting Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8pm. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11:00AM Thursday, February 1, 2018 from Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Interment will take place in Saint Bridget’s Cemetery, Hardwood Ridge, NB. For those who wish, donations made to the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
