Obituary of Marguerite Christeen Purves

Purves, Marguerite Christeen Age 87, of Halifax (formerly Minto, NB) passed away on March 4, 2018, surrounded by family at Dartmouth General Hospital. She was the eldest child of the late Frances (Dickson) and Byron Pickett. She was a beloved elementary school teacher in the Minto and Grand Lake areas until she met the love of her life, Wendell Purves. After a whirlwind romance, they married on Sept. 7, 1957 and had four children. Her family was her life. Her joys were her children, cooking, gardening and spending time at “the camp” in Scotchtown, NB. She had a wonderful laugh, a love of baking, and an enthusiasm for Christmas. She took great pride in her grandsons. After the death of her husband, she moved to Halifax to be closer to her daughters, and adapted to life in the city—but her heart remained in Scotchtown. She successfully lived on her own, as was her wish, until the end. On Sunday, at long last, she reunited with Wendell. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, and her sister Shirley. She is survived by her children, Lynn, Gail, Wendy (Angela Mombourquette) and John (Dianna); grandsons, Aidan and Ben; siblings: Dorothy (Jack) Casey, Harry (Eleanor) Pickett and Edward (Lorraine) Pickett, as well as several nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Dr. Sophie Couture, Northwood Homecare, VON, and the staff at the Dartmouth General Hospital. Cremation has taken place. Per her wishes, there will no service. Her ashes will be interred at Scotchtown Cemetery in the summer. Donations can be made to Hospice Halifax or a charity of choice. To send condolences, please contact Hoggfunerals.ca.
