Obituary of Alvin Earl Scribner

Alvin Earl Scribner, beloved husband of Mary (Morell), peacefully passed away at his home in Minto on May 15, 2018 his wife and children with him, after many years of deteriorating health. Alvin was born at Upper Salmon Creek, Queens County, on July 7, 1940, (along with his twin brother, Calvin) a son of the late Frederick and Effie (Upton) Scribner. He spent his early years in Minto, before moving to the farm in Sheffield in 1950. During his working years at Thompson Contracting and N.B. Coal, Alvin was very active in the work of his union, United Mine Workers of America, Local 7409. He served several years as a Sub-district Deputy Board Member of UMWA, District 26. We will remember Al for his love of family, the good times spent with his friends, and for his incredible chocolate cake. Alvin & Mary were married in Sheffield in 1965 and are parents of Raymond, who lives in Mississauga, Ontario, and Susan (Mrs. Christopher Webster) of Grafton, New Hampshire. Two granddaughters also survive him – Jessica Scribner of Minto, and Amanda Scribner-Anderson of Mississauga, grandsons, Kevin and Cory and one great-grandson, Jackson. The Scribners were a large family. Alvin was predeceased by his parents, Fred and Effie, his parents-in-law, Frank & Marjorie Morell, brothers Manford, Howard, Calvin, and sisters Helen Higgins, Inez Gamson, Edna Jordan, Joan Gilbert and Muriel LeBlanc. He is survived by his brothers Vernon (Mary) of Three Tree Creek, and Ronald (Dawn) of Fredericton; his sisters, Verna Boulter of Oromocto, Jean (Gilmore) Phillips of Rusagonis, Faye (Lloyd) Murray of Maquapit Lake and Linda Gale (Mark Murphy)of Fredericton, many nieces and nephews and a wide circle of friends. A Celebration of Life will take place from 2-4pm Saturday, May 19, 2018 down stairs of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 12, Minto - 16 Legion Street, Minto, NB.
