Obituary of Alfred James Jones
The death of Alfred James Jones of Minto, NB occurred January 24, 2019 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital.
Born in Minto, NB he was the son of the late Ernest and Catherine (Booth) Jones.
Survived by his daughter, Lori McLean (Stefan) of Moose Mountain, NB; a sister, Winnifred Jacquart of Minto; grandchildren, Michael (Rebecca), Thomas (Dominique Waite-Cote) and Kaitlyn; great grandchildren, Alexis, Michael, and Skyler; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, Alfred was predeceased by his wife, Colleen (Mohr) Jones in 1999; brothers, Ernest, Cornelius and William.
Alfred was born and raised in Minto, and left home to join the Air Force, where he served for three years as a meteorologist prior to moving to Saint John around 1964. He worked at a number of jobs before finally starting work at he Irving Oil Refinery, where he worked for over 30 years. In 1966, Alfred met and married Colleen, and later adopted and raised a daughter. Alfred remained with Colleen until her death in 1999. He later moved back to Minto to live with his sister Win in the old family homestead, following the death of his last remaining brother, William, in 2015.
Over the years Alfred enjoyed bowling, first in Saint John with the Refinery league, after retiring playing in two independent leagues. Later he continued to play in a local Minto league following his return to his birthplace. He was an active member of the Minto Senior's Club and enjoyed going to the Senior's Dances. He also felt it was important to help others; he was a frequent blood donor, who donated blood over 160 times.
Resting at Hogg Funeral Services (10 King Street, Minto) with visiting on Monday from 2-4 and 6-8pm. Funeral Service will be held 11:00AM Tuesday, January 29, 2019 from Christian Community Church. Interment will take place in Saint Joseph Cemetery, Saint John, NB at a later date. For those who wish, donations made to the Christian Community Church or the Minto Resource Center would be appreciated by the family.
