Obituary of Evelyn Elizabeth Thompson

Sunrise, November 20th, 1923 Sunset, August 12th, 2015 We are thankful that our Mother’s long goodbye with Alzheimer’s is finally over. Our Mother Evelyn Elizabeth Thompson passed away in Palliative care at the DECH. She was born in North Forks, Sunbury Co, New Brunswick, but in her lifetime she lived in Newcastle Bridge, many areas of Toronto and Fredericton. She spent the last 3 years as a resident of Brunswick Hall (Shannex) where she received excellent care. In Mom’s journey through life, she loved her participation in Eastern Star Remembrance Chapter #30 where she received her 50 year pin; Past President Ladies Auxiliary, Royal Canadian Legion; and Flag Bearer for Sir Howard Douglas IODE. However, her greatest joy was working in the public in retail at our Hunziker’s Grocery Store, A&P Grocery in Ontario, and Birks Jewelry store in Fredericton where she achieved many accolades. Mom met our father, Roger Hunziker, when she was 16 and he accompanied her in a singing competition which she won. Mom loved singing at the Saturday night jamboree with her brother Rowan DeCourcey or getting together with the gang for a good country music jam where she was always singing and yodeling. A big thrill for her was in 2010 when her son, Bob, took her to see her idol, Vince Gill in Niagara Falls. Another big love of Mom’s was bingo, and especially at those sponsored by the Lions Club, because the guys there were so good to her. She is predeceased by her father Emery Jeramiah Thompson, her mother Winnifred Agnes Delorey, and brothers Freeman Thompson and Rowan DeCourcey. She is survived by her loving daughter Faye (Ryan) Hunziker MacFarlane of Nackawic and her son Bob (Wendy) Hunziker of Oakville, ON; grandchildren Greg (Anna) MacFarlane, Nackawic; Lori (Bradford) Dickerson of Charleston, SC; Jeffrey Hunziker, Erin (Kevin) Maynes, Danny (Betty) Hunziker all in Ontario; and great grandchildren Emilia, Sofia, Alexander, Molly, Ryan, Samantha, Megan, Matthew, Alexis, Aiden, Joshua, Derek, Katelyn, and Emily. She is also survived by her sister Audrey Ryan; four half-brothers Aubrey, Frank, Roger, and Reggie; sister-in-laws Josephine Thompson, Marjorie Hunziker, Clara Muzrall, Mary DeCourcey; and many nieces and nephews. Resting at Hogg Funeral Services (10 King Street, Minto) with visiting on Sunday from 1 … 3pm. Funeral Service will take place 3:00PM Sunday, August 16, 2015 from Minto Community Chapel. Interment will take place in the United Baptist Cemetery, Minto. For those who wish, donations made to the Alzheimer’s Society would be appreciated by the family.
