Obituary of Verna Clark Slater
Verna Slater died on November 7 in Highlands Ranch, Colorado. She was born July 21, 1928 in Fredericton, New Brunswick to William and Vella Clark and moved to Rhode Island in 1943 where she continued her education and met her husband, Arthur. They were married in 1951 and after a short business career she became a stay-at-home mom to their two sons whom they raised in Lexington, Massachusetts. In 1987, after Arthur's early retirement, they expanded their interest in travel and divided their time between Florida, San Miguel de Allende, Mexico and sailing in the U.S., the Bahamas, and the Caribbean. Their love of the Maine coast brought them to Boothbay in 1999 and they quickly became part of the community. They lived in Boothbay until Arthur’s death in 2016, when Verna moved to Colorado to be closer to family.
She is survived by son Geoffrey and wife Lauren of Fayston, Vermont, Craig and wife Colleen of Denver, Colorado and granddaughters Carol Mooney of Eagle, Colorado, Kellie Reiland, and Meagan Moore, both of Denver, four great grandchildren, and her brother Robert of Lincoln, RI. She is predeceased by her sister Irene and brother William.
She wants to be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and loyal friend. At her request there will be no funeral. A private graveside service will take place in Minto, New Brunswick. She will be greatly missed.
