Joyce Calabrese

Obituary of Joyce Adeline Calabrese

Joyce Adeline Calabrese of Newcastle Creek, NB passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 25, 2020. Born in Fredericton, NB, Joyce is predeceased by her parents Lloyd Palmer and Hattie (Carle), her beloved husband of over 65 years Jack Calabrese, and her sisters Irene and Greta, and daughters-in-law Beverley and Catherine. Proud mother of Michael (Beverley) and John (Catherine). Cherished grandmother to Carla (Mike), Caryn (Troy), Bradley (Chanelle), and Darren (Tammy). Loving great-grandmother (GG) to Kristen, Connor, Harriet, June, Adeline, Jack, and Quinn. She will be so very missed. Joyce taught generations of families through her 20+ years of teaching — first in a one-room schoolhouse in Douglas Harbour before teaching kindergarten in Minto. The countless cards and letters from past students discovered preciously tucked away in her home are a testament to her love and commitment to her students. Joyce’s other loves came from time spent with family and friends at the bowling alley, the church, or at the camp on the shore of Grand Lake. Her laughter when beating the men at cards with her niece and best friend Freda McCoy will continue to echo whenever a new game of 45s is dealt around a card table. Her loss will be felt by everyone she touched, but most amongst her family and friends with whom she shared the best moments in her wonderfully full life. The family would like to acknowledge the remarkable staff at the Mill Cove Nursing Home and the many health care professionals on 3 East and the Palliative Care Unit at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital for the care and comfort they provided through the final years, months, and days of Joyce’s life. A funeral service will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, March 2 at Saint Michael and All Angels Anglican Church in Minto, N.B. with the Archdeacon Ven. Archdeacon John Sharpe officiating. A reception will immediately follow. Internment will take place at a later date. For those who wish, donations in Joyce’s name may be made to the MEMS Breakfast Program would be greatly appreciated by the family. Personal condolences may be offered through Hogg Funeral Home - www.hoggfunerals.ca.
