Obituary of Ronald Purves Bailey
Ronald Purves Bailey of Newcastle Creek, passed away peacefully at the Veterans Health Unit in Fredericton, on January 27th, 2024.
Born in Fredericton, NB on July 20th, 1934, Ronald was the son of the late Jean (Purves) Bailey and Lawrence Bailey. He was also the beloved husband of the late Mary Ann (Cosman) Bailey for over 59 years. In addition to his parents and wife, Ronald was predeceased by his brother, Brian Bailey.
Ronald is survived by his daughter, Kathy Grant (David); son, Larry Bailey (Shelley); sister, Nancy Bailey; grandchildren, Aaron, Jill (Matt), Sarah (Isaac), Brad (Katelyn), Mike and John; great grandchildren, Maddy, Lauren, Kate, Brooklyn, and Charlie; sister-in-law, Jean Grant, many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.
Ronald enjoyed his camp on Grand Lake and loved to hunt and fish. He loved his family and always enjoyed the time he spent with them. Ronald cherished his friendships and enjoyed many happy hours at the point and at the camp with them. He was a world class 45 player, winning his last controversial world championship with Hazen Wheeler, also of great notoriety.
Ronald was a long-time member of Minto Royal Canadian Legion Branch 12, serving over 68 years. He spent most of his working career in the coal mines of Minto.
Ronald’s family would like to thank all those who helped care for Ronald in his later years, as well as the staff at the Veteran’s hospital, Services to Seniors, Meals on Wheels, Gordon and Becky Haynes. A graveside service will be held on Monday, February 5th 2024 at 1:00PM at the Newcastle Creek Cemetery Extension (125 Newcastle Centre Road, Newcastle Centre, NB).
