John Carle

Obituary of John Robert Carle

The death of John Robert “Bob” Carle occurred on Saturday, May 25, 2024 at Hospice Fredericton.  Born in Fredericton, NB, on February 5, 1936, he was the eldest son of the late Albert and Florence (Briggs) Carle of Clarks Corner, NB.

As a young man, Bob loved big cars and pickup trucks, and he wasn’t afraid of hard work to pay for them.  He started out working in the woods, and later became a heavy equipment operator with Diamond Construction, Fredericton, NB.  After a few years he gave up construction work to become an independent long-haul tractor/trailer driver first with Sunbury Transport Ltd. and later with Maritime Ontario.  He logged over a million miles throughout Canada and the United States.  During the mid-seventies to early eighties he was co-owner of the “The Country Cousin” restaurant and convenience store at Maquapit Lake, and “C-Bar-C Western Wear” in the Oromocto Mall.

Bob’s real passion, however, was playing the guitar and singing country and western music, both of which he started at a very early age.  In his retirement years, music was still a big part of his life, and he enjoyed picking up his guitar and singing whenever the occasion arose.  One of his proudest moments came in 2010 when he was inducted into the Minto Country Music Wall of Fame.

He is survived by his son, Michael (Tammy) and Michael’s mother, Marie, brothers, Glen (Ferne) and Dale (Brenda), several nieces, nephews and cousins.  In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sisters, Helen Marie (infant); and Patricia (late Donald) Johnson.

A graveside committal service will be held at Scotchtown Cemetery, 775 Scotchtown Rd, Route 690, Scotchtown, NB 2:00PM Saturday, June 1st, 2024 Everyone is welcome to attend.  In lieu of flowers, donations in Bob’s memory can be made to Hospice Fredericton."
