Obituary of Marven H. Richardson

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Marven H. Richardson, who peacefully left us on September 10, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Minto on September 30, 1940, he was the son of the late Gerald and Flossie Richardson. He lived a full and cherished life of almost 84 years.

He met the love of his life, Marilyn Irene Fulton, at the Minto drive-in in 1957. They married in 1961 and enjoyed over 61 wonderful years of marriage. Marilyn predeceased him on December 12, 2022, and not a day went by that he did not miss her. He lived in the home they built together in 1961 until the end.

Marven spent many years working for Eastland Industries as a purchaser and retired in 2005.

In his earlier years, he could often be found spending time bowling in the men’s league or playing hockey for the Ye Olde Miners hockey team. His time as a hockey player took him to many places in Canada and the United States, where he built friendships that lasted a lifetime. He also enjoyed fishing and, as a young man, spent many days fishing at the Castaway camp his dad built on the Salmon River. He enjoyed watching baseball and hockey and was an avid Toronto Blue Jays and Maple Leafs fan. He was also inducted into the Minto Sports Wall of Fame in 2014 as a bowler.

Marven served two terms as a councillor for the Village of Minto. He loved politics and made many political friends during his lifetime.

He was a devoted family man who took special pride in his grandchildren. Known as Gramp or Grampie, he always made time to watch them play hockey, baseball, gymnastics, or soccer. In recent years, he also enjoyed watching his great-nephews play hockey and baseball.

He was a devoted father to his daughter, Brenda (David), and sons, Stephen (Darla) and Michael. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Curtis (Kyle), Cody (Jena), Brett (Shelby), Brandon (Dylan), and Olivia; step-grandchildren: Ross (Miranda) and Stephen (Moira); and great-grandchildren: Rory, Jordyn, Logan, and Aiden.

He is survived by his brother, Gerry Richardson, and his wife, Beverley, as well as his special nephew Mathew (Ami) and their boys, Gavin and Hunter, along with many other nieces and nephews. Brenda, Stephen, and Michael cannot express enough appreciation to Gerry and Beverley for the special care they provided their father, including meals, trips to sporting events, and daily visits. The love he had for them could not be measured.

Besides his parents, Marven was predeceased by an infant sister, Geraldine, a brother, Murray, and a sister, Blanche.

The family would like to express their thanks to the nurses and staff of 4SE and emergency ward at the DECH in Fredericton, especially Megan, Sara, and Kane, who were so respectful and loving during his final days, and to his special neighbor, Melissa Corey, who always kept a watch over him.

There will be no visitation as per Marven’s request. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, September 18, at 1:00 p.m. at the Holy Rosary Catholic Parish Church, 26 Father Dysart Lane, Minto, NB, followed by a reception at the Minto Senior Citizens Club at 11 O’Leary Lane, Minto, NB. A private burial will take place. For those who wish, memorial donations may be made to the local Minlak Training Programs Inc.
