Obituary of Laura Mae Young

On May 8th, 2014 the angels sang and heaven rejoiced as Jesus received our dear mother into His loving arms. Laura May Young (Post) was born on January 18, 1921 to Rupert and Ethel (Lunergan) Post at Ripples, NB. She was predeceased by her husband Claude, parents, brother Ralph and son Bruce. Her legacy includes her children Ivan (Freda), Thomas Keith (Dean), Ferne Carle (Glen), and Olive Raymond (Jacques), 13 grand children Terry McAllister (Adrienne), Danny Young(Chaloe), Sherry Dean (Barry), Todd Young (Jill), Sue Vasiliauskus (Ken), Debra Romero (Pablo), Scott Young (Tanya), Melissa Young (Gerry), Carey Carle (Mabel), Brent Carle (Geraldine), Jeremy Doucette (Barbie), Jacob Milley & Joseph Weeks, 19 great grandchildren, Javan, Justin, Makayla, Carly, Madison, Emily, Alyssa, Michael, Alex, Sarah, Andres, Bryan, Rebekah, Ryan, Amanda, Adam, Jessica, Christina, Andrea, Chase and 6 great great grandchildren, Ana, Jude, Justus, Cohen, Jalynn & Harper, sisters Robena Woodworth(Allan), Vivian Greer and Flora Atyeo (Walter), many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Laura will always be remembered for her kind and gentle spirit. She loved her Lord and loved people. She was a faithful member of the United Baptist Church and for many years held the position of Deaconess and Treasurer. Laura was very involved in her community visiting the sick, encouraging the troubled, and mothering the children. She never visited without a plate of cookies or her famous biscuits in hand. She constantly gave a listening ear to whoever needed her. She held a Nurses Aide Certificate and cared for her in-laws at home until their deaths. Laura worked for several years in Mary Rice Nursing Home in Barkers Point. Her caring ways comforted many sick and dying persons. Laura organized the Ripples Bicentennial Celebration and was a joint founder in the Ripples Activity Centre. Laura also held the position of President of Four Lakes Seniors for several years. During her earlier years she cooked in lumber camps and worked as a housekeeper for several people. Her love of life and independence, wisdom and caring ways leaves a special place in many hearts. She loved to garden, cook, quilt and FISH! At the age of 85 she authored a book called “Memories of the Good Old Days” describing many antics and interesting stories of local people and her youth. Visitation will be held at Hogg’s Funeral home in Minto on Saturday May 10th from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm. Funeral services will be on Monday May 12th at Minto United Baptist Church at 2pm with Chaplain Mary Thurrott officiating. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Samaria House Ministries or a charity of the donors choice.
