Obituary of Shirley Elizabeth Wiggins

It’s with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Shirley Elizabeth Wiggins on July 27, 2020. Shirley passed away peacefully, at the age of 84, after a brief illness surrounded by the love of her family. Shirley will be lovingly remembered by Ken Wiggins, her husband of 35 years, her daughters Shannon Craigie-Halkett and Linda Roberts, sons Chris Wiggins (Grace) and John Wiggins (Linda), grandchildren Kira, Callem and Sheavon McDougall, Carlie and Hailey Roberts, and many nephews and nieces. Shirley is predeceased by her parents, Annie and Rees, and by her brother Brian Foulkes. Shirley’s life was characterized by her great love for her family that meant the world to her. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who was always there to offer her love, support and encouragement. Shirley loved to play piano all her life, and she also loved watching the Canucks play hockey. Shirley was born February 20, 1936 to Rees Foulkes and Annie Pollock in Newcastle Bridge, New Brunswick. A true Maritimer, Shirley has many close cousins and relatives who still reside in and outside of Fredericton. Shirley graduated as a Registered Nurse from Saint John General Hospital in New Brunswick in 1957 and followed her life’s passion of nursing. She worked in Saint John, Boston and Ontario before moving to Vancouver, BC. Shirley worked as a Home care nurse in Burnaby, and in the OR, Emergency and ICU of hospitals such as Peace Arch, Burnaby General, St. Paul’s and Lion’s Gate Hospital. Shirley was empathetic and experienced, and the kind of nurse you would want with you if you needed any kind of care. Shirley married Ken Wiggins July 13, 1991, and the couple enjoyed many happy years together living in North Vancouver. A private service will be held for Shirley on August 7, 2020 at 2 pm at Boal Chapel in North Vancouver. In lieu of flowers, if you wish, a donation to Lion’s Gate Hospital Foundation would be appreciated. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.firstmemorialnorthvancouver.com for the Wiggins family.
