I met Susan in July 2011, when I was hired as a union rep at the CUPE office in Fredericton where she was Acting Regional Director. The first week on the job she invited me to join her to attend the CUPE PEI division executive meeting. We met early morning at the Coles Island exit and off we went for a same-day return trip to Charlottetown. Susan was a fine mentor - and the trip was a great introduction to the people and the organization for a newbie like me. I'll remember Susan's dedication, her integrity, her kindness and her generosity - and her sense of humour. My sincere condolences to her family and friends.

To Mary and family... We have known you and your parents since forever. The news that Susan had passed was shocking. She was such a vibrant person. I remember when she was just a little girl playing in Harry’s barn with animals. She loved both the cats and cows...knew all of them by name. Very early she showed her deep love and appreciation of all animals. It was no surprise to later learn that Susan become President of CUPE. Another thing Susan learned early on was how to speak her mind...She was a very accomplished lady with a big heart and generous and kind nature, loved by all who knew her. I met Susan when I was at the DECH in the 1990's then re-connected when i was CEO of York Care Centre. We worked together through some challenging problems and I honestly appreciated her attitude, integrity, and ability to bridge union and management issues and discussions. We were able to get much accomplished together that had great benefit for employees, residents and the organization.
